There are many interesting towns like Newcastle, Carlisle, Hexham, Haltwistle, Corbridge and Hayden Bridge. The picturesque town of Brampton is also close by with many interesting places to visit including, the famous Cumbrian Antiques Centre.
Heather Bank Cottage is situated only a few hundred yards from the Spa Country Hotel. The Spa offers excellent eating out at reasonable prices, to include a carvery Saturday evening and Sunday lunch. They have pitch and putt and croquet . There is an open bar and pool table. The village of Gilsland also has a staggering three other Pubs, which offer food and a friendly pint. You also have Megs Café.
From the secure and private back courtyard of Heather Bank there is access to a path that leads to the river, you can also walk to waterfalls and the famous popping stone.
