This recently renovated village house has two double bedrooms both of which have french windows, one opens on to the garden whilst the other offers terrific views up the traditional village street. The large and airy living room is equipped with television DVD & CD players and offers a choice of books and games. There are double doors to the first floor terrace with it's shady dining area, space for sunbathing and bbq, all with terrific views over the village to the almost perpetually snowcapped Sierra Nevada.
The spacious kitchen/diner is fully equipped with dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and five ring range style gas cooker. We provide a basic welcome pack for your first meal and leave the kitchen fully stocked with store cupboard staples such as oils, herbs and spices, pasta and even wine and beer. We ask only that you replace anything you finish. All rooms have ceiling fans and, should you prefer to visit during the winter, there are two woodburning stoves for the chillier evenings.
Outside in the private walled garden there is a small relaxation pool (for the more energetic there is a large public pool only 5 minutes walk away open during July and August) a shady dining area with views down the valley and more sunbathing areas.
The house is located high in the village of Torvizcon, a small sleepy Spanish farming village with a population of about 1000 which is pretty well untouched by tourism. The streets were designed for mules rather than cars and many of the locals still use them. There are numerous shops hidden away including a butchers, fishmongers, bakery, pharmacy and 3 small supermarkets enabling you to do all your shopping without having to leave the village. There are 4 bars in the village each with their own character and all serving the traditional Spanish Tapas with your drinks. If you fancy something more substantial two of them serve basic meals and there is also a pension with a family run restaurant ( an experience!).
The Area
Torvizcon is situated in "La Alpujarra", the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, amidst some of the most stunning scenery in Southern Spain. Popular with Spanish tourists the area offers wonderful walking and mountain biking as well as pretty pueblo blancos which nestle on the mountainside. The bustling market town of Orgiva is 15 minutes drive and the beaches of the Costa Tropical including the historic town of Salobrena are about 45 minutes drive. Granada with the unmissable Alhambra and Generalife is about 1 hour away and during the winter months skiing is available above the city. |
