Calis beach - Fethiye

Fethiye-Calis is positioned on fairly flat land around a vast, lagoon-like bay which appears almost closed to the sea by an island at the entrance. Pineclad mountains of the Taurus range surround. A fishing port, marina and working town, Fethiye supports a considerable population and offers a good mix of tourist amenities and authentic Turkish atmosphere. Most of the interest lies in the waterfront area, where there is a half-mile quay for evening strolls and a small green park. Wooden saling ships lie at the anchor here, with another part reserved for fishing vessels and the marina for luxury yachts and cruisers. Plenty for the historian in the labyrinth of the narrow, atractive streets dotted with craved stone sarcophagi, while in the cliffs above are the temple facades, hewn from the living rock: these are thoms of Lycians who lived here in the 4th century BC. The town has a lively, busy atmosphere, with plenty to keep most visitors occupied. Nearest beaches are Calis Beach (2km) and picturesque Olu Deniz (9km)and the town is only 40 mins away from Dalaman airport.
